Outlook configuration

Outlook auto-detects vne.email if your domain has the autodiscover CNAME record.

Quick method: Auto-discovery

If you've added the autodiscover.<your-domain> CNAME autodiscover.vne.email record (following the DNS configuration guide), Outlook fetches the configuration automatically:

  1. Open Outlook, go to File → Add Account
  2. Enter your email and mailbox password
  3. Outlook auto-detects the configuration from autodiscover and shows Account setup is complete
  4. Click Done — your mailbox starts syncing

Manual method (if auto-discovery isn't working)

In the add-account window, choose Advanced setup → IMAP and enter:

Incoming mail server (IMAP)

Servermail.vne.email
Port993
EncryptionSSL/TLS
Usernameyour full email address (e.g. you@yourcompany.com)
Passwordyour mailbox password (NOT your portal password)

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

Servermail.vne.email
Port587
EncryptionSTARTTLS
AuthenticationSMTP authentication required (LOGIN)
Usernamesame email + password as above
Tip: do NOT use port 465 with Outlook on Windows. Outlook for Windows has a long-standing bug with implicit-TLS SMTPS — always use 587 + STARTTLS.

Outlook for Mac

Outlook 16.x on macOS usually auto-detects via autodiscover. If not, use the same settings above — look for the Manual configuration tab in the add-account window.

Outlook Web (Outlook.com)

Outlook.com / Microsoft 365 doesn't support connecting external IMAP accounts for Personal users. If you're on a Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise plan, go to Settings → Mail → Sync email → Other email accounts and add it with the IMAP/SMTP settings above.

Common issues

"Cannot connect to outgoing server"

  • Check port 587 + STARTTLS, NOT SSL/TLS.
  • Make sure My outgoing server requires authentication is checked.
  • Go to the portal to reset your mailbox password if you've forgotten it — Outlook caching the old password is a common source of confusion.

"Folders missing"

Outlook sometimes doesn't show subfolders. Right-click the account name → IMAP Folders → Query → tick "Show only subscribed folders", then select the folders you want to see.

"Sent items" not saved on the server

In Account settings → Change → More settings → Sent Items, select "Save sent items in the following folder on the server" and choose Sent.
